Under the Rug
By: William Rau, Sumner Brumbaugh, and Carolyn Bell
Two weeks passed and it happened again. Akinori was dressed in his suitable bow tie and Cashmere Sweater. The party had just ended… again, but this time two guests weren’t going home, forever. The first time it happened, no one professional got involved, but Akinori knew this time would be different. He was somehow able to keep it quiet the first time, but a second time there was no way he could.
Two weeks ago Akinori was having his big party of the year. Margret, one of his best friends, and his catering cleaning lady always came to help him prepare for the party. The party was at five o’clock and his best friend, Huckabee, was coming. He was always allowed to bring his electric ham knife and cut the meat. He was still upset with his daughter, Casey, for killing his wife in child birth. Even after nine years he was still upset with her. He always seemed to find consolation when he cut the meat. He got to carry anything heavy into the party because he was very strong and buff.
Then, Huck and Casey arrived along with all the other guests. There was some cocktail hour and socializing time. Everyone gathered into the dining room, and Huckabee cut the steak. Everyone was eating peacefully until Huckabee jumped up and started screaming at Casey. He grabbed her arm and stormed out. He came back in without Casey. After dinner was finished Huckabee wasn’t seen. Margret went up to Casey and asked “Will you come and help me clean sweetie?” Casey replied “Sure”. A few of the guests heard Margret say “Now hurry along, Casey dear.” Then something unexpected happen, Casey screamed “Daddy, no, stop it.” Right after, the sound of the electric ham knife echoed through the house, then… dead silence. Aki reacted first and ran into the dining room. He saw a large lump under the rug. He took the chair from behind him and hit the lump with all his might. A large splotch of blood appeared on the rug. The chair disappeared through the floor. Trying not to faint from the sight of blood, Aki ran into the kitchen. He saw Huckabee with a large spot of fresh blood on his pants. He tried to run out of the room but fainted. Huckabee picked Aki up and carried him to his bed. As soon as Huckabee was what happened he ran to his truck crying.
Aki was able to keep the ordeal quiet. Two weeks later Aki had another party to make up for the first terrible one. All the same people were invited, even Huckabee. This time Huckabee forgot his ham knife. He was so full of grief he could barely walk inside to the party. Not many of the guests even noticed anything different than the first party. They had dinner, and everything went great. Margret had cooked a great dinner. Huckabee was in the kitchen and noticed his ham knife on the table. He checked it and his initials were carved in the side. This was his, but he hadn’t brought his. Then, Margret walked in behind him and said “That’s a pretty sharp ham knife, we don’t want you cutting yourself now.” Huckabee tried to run, but it was too late she had all ready grabbed the knife. Huckabee screamed for help as she threw the knife at his chest. The screaming stopped and Aki and all the guests ran into the kitchen. Everyone saw Huckabee’s bloody body lying on the floor. It was oozing blood slowly through his mouth and a large slit in his chest. Again, Aki fainted. When Aki woke up, the body was gone and there was no blood on the floor. Only one person he knew could clean like this… Margret. He began to search the house. He went into the living room and the lump was there with blood seeping through the rug. He, for once, didn’t faint. He looked around the room and saw a tiny trap door. He slipped through into a small passage way. He walked slowly and cautiously down the passage. He saw a bed with Margret sleeping in it. He hands were smoothered
